Mahogany Mango Smoothie

So, my goal today was to get a good workout at the gym and then head to the field for my five mile walk. I made it to the gym and got three miles in on the elliptical, and got some core and strengthening exercise done. When I was done, I was drenched, but not only drenched, I was also depleted of my energy. I began to question if I would have enough energy to make it to the field to get my five miles in. I was determined, but so was the hunger pain that was lurking around in my stomach.

I was so glad that I brought a banana to the gym with me. Then I thought, “I have something for that hunger and grabbed the banana and started to eat it while I was walking to the car. After I got into the car I started to say to myself “I can do this” then changed it to “I have to do this, because I am not only doing it for myself, but for those I love and care about (and that handsome future husband that I am dreaming of – smile).” As I started the car engine and pulled out of the gym parking lot, I thought, “the hunger pain is not as bad – to the field I go.”

When I got to the field, I felt much better than I did when leaving the gym, a boost of energy from a small banana did the trick, but I also knew that I would need some food of substance once I was finished with my workout – I had the taste for one of my favorite fruit, mangoes. I also knew that I needed something with protein to help with my muscle rejuvenation, to replenish my electrolytes, and replace the nutrients I lost during my work-out. So, I decided on the below to do just what I needed – a Mango Smoothie.

I hope you will try it and let me know how you liked it. And don't forget to sign-up for our Newsletter to be notified of new recipes.

Mahogany Mango Smoothie

2 Cups of Frozen Ripened Mangoes
1 Cup of Cashew Milk (or water)
2 ½ Teaspoon of Chia Seeds (Chia Seeds can cause constipation, so drink plenty of water)

Add to your blender, Vitamix, or Nutri Bullet and pulverize until all ingredients have been dissolved. Serve and enjoy.

Some nutritional benefits (this is not an all-inclusive list of the benefits, rather, this list is comprised of what stood out to me):

Mangos: Mango contains Vitamin A and flavonoids such as beta and alpha-carotene, Vitamin C, antioxidants, Vitamin B-6 and Vitamin E.

Cashew Milk: Cashews are a good source of soluble dietary fibers, minerals, vitamins, and monounsaturated fatty acids that aids in lowering the bad cholesterol (LDL), while increasing the good cholesterol (HDL). Cashews are packed with selenium, copper, manganese, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc.

Chia Seed: Chia Seeds is a superfood and are packed with protein, Omega-3s, fiber, and antioxidants, manganese (good source of electrolytes), magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium.
